At the end of September, the SILMO , International Exhibition of Eyewear and Optical Equipment took place at the Parc des Expositions in Paris-Villepinte. Unmissable fair for the world of optics, it welcomes not only opticians but also orthoptists , ophthalmologists and students of these disciplines.

SILMO is 900 exhibitors for some 34,000 visitors , mostly opticians (60%), with 57% foreigners and 43% French. Among the exhibitors, ¾ are foreign ( mainly Chinese ) and 25% French. In general, visitors come here to discover new products , see new trends and meet suppliers.

All the innovations are presented, it is an opportunity to discover, learn, discuss our profession of optician and expand our fields of action.

INNOVATION could sum up this show: with 3D glasses, futuristic sports glasses, virtual glasses trials, frame manufacturing with 3D printers , low-vision visual aids... innovation is more and more present and the optician realizes that he cannot ignore these new technologies.

The SILMO allows a great overview of the entire profession:

  • Training: optical schools are present there such as the Victor Bérard high school in Morez or the ICO in Bures sur Yvette.
  • Certification laboratories like ALUTEC in Morez.
  • Store equipment and optical equipment: Nidek grinder for example.
  • Sports glasses with specific products: Demetz, Nike, etc.
  • The major eyewear brands: Calvin Klein, Clic, Lacoste, Frozen for children...
  • The creators: KROM, JF Rey…
  • Contactology, low vision...

The big guest at this show is BLUE LIGHT , present in all Tokai, Hoya, Niko, BBGR glassmakers… Essilor even won a gold SILMO with a blue light blocking lens. This SILMO is the general awareness of the need and the need to protect ourselves from this blue light emitted by our screens, LEDs ...

SILMO is also the Academy , training-conferences, this year, on the theme of reading and led by various optical professionals . We had the chance to see and listen to Professor Yves Pouliquen , ophthalmologist and academician, Professor Resnikoff ophthalmologist, Langis Michaud, Quebec optometrist…
